The Present Status of Population Education in Higher Education

Abstract

|
In order to find the present status of population education at universities and colleges in Korea survey was conducted in 1973. In March, 1973 a brief questionnaire was sent to each university anm college authority asking brief outline of their population education and the names of professor; concerned. In May a detail questionnaire was mailed to those concerned professors to be filled ani returned. In September personal visit was made to those professors who did not respond to mai. questionnaire or those who responded but needed further clarification.
Following is the summary of survey data collected from 22 universities and 22 colleges.
1. Majority of higher educational institutes in Korea included the contents of population educatioi
in other lecture course though such a few departments as sociology, geography, and economic:
dealt demography as an independent course.
2. By and large, such general education courses as sociology, economics, child care, health education, home nursing included some amount of population problems in it.
3. It was observed that there were much variation in the content of population education accordinf the choice of individual professors concerned and no uniformity.
4. Since 1970, educators in Korea exprssed much more interest and participation in population education than before.
